Industries / Event services

Online marketing for event services.

One booking a year from each client, decided on a shortlist of three, and won on the reply to the first enquiry.

Online marketing for an event supplier is a shortlist problem. A couple, a company or a committee searches, opens four or five suppliers in tabs, sends the same enquiry to three of them, and books whoever replies first with a price they can act on. Almost nothing about that is fixed by more traffic. It is fixed by appearing on the shortlist at all, by having enough real work visible to be taken seriously, and by replying in hours rather than days with a number rather than a request for a call. The demand is also dated: an enquiry for next June is worth the same as one for next month, but it converts on a different timetable, and a program measured on a thirty day window will misread the whole business. CurrentAds runs search, local visibility, portfolio, enquiry handling and measurement as one program, on accounts your business owns.

The discovery path

How customers actually find you in this industry

  1. 01

The buyer contacts three suppliers, not one

Enquiries in this category are sent in parallel by design. Being on the list is necessary and nowhere near sufficient, and the supplier who replies first with a usable price wins a large share of the time.

  2. 02

The date is set before the supplier is chosen

People book a venue or fix a date and then find everyone else. That means demand for a given weekend exists months ahead, and a booking made in January for September looks like a failure in a thirty day report.

  3. 03

    Portfolio is the product page

Nobody books a caterer or a florist from a description. Real photographs of real events, in enough volume to prove the business is busy, are what move an enquiry to a booking.

  4. 04

    Price silence loses the shortlist

A supplier who will not indicate a starting price is removed from the list by a buyer who has three others who will. A range is enough, and a range filters out the enquiries that were never going to book.

  5. 05

Referral between suppliers is a real channel

Venues, planners, photographers and caterers recommend each other constantly. That network is not bought with advertising but it is helped by being visible and easy to work with, and it produces the highest converting enquiries in the category.

Priority order

The pillars that matter most here

We run the same ten services for every client. What changes by industry is the order they are built in and where the budget goes. For event services, this is the sequence we argue for.

  1. 01

    Paid Media

Search on the specific service and the specific event type, budgeted with the booking window in mind rather than the month, and separated by event type because a wedding, a corporate function and a funeral are different businesses with different values.

  2. 02

    Creative Studio

The portfolio is the whole argument. Volume, quality and recency of real event photography does more here than any other asset, and most suppliers have it sitting unused on a drive.

  3. 03

    CRO and Landing Pages

The enquiry form and what happens after it. Shorter forms, a published starting price, and a stated reply time change the conversion rate more than the traffic ever will.

  4. 04

    Local and Maps

Most of these services are chosen locally, and the map pack plus a complete profile with recent photographs is where a supplier first becomes visible.

  5. 05

    Reputation

A one time, high stakes, unrepeatable purchase. Reviews are how a stranger decides you will not ruin the day.

  6. 06

    Analytics and Tracking

Measurement has to follow an enquiry to a signed contract, over a window as long as the booking lead time. A thirty day report on a nine month sales cycle is not a measurement, it is a guess.

  7. 07

    Email and SMS

Fast, templated but personal first replies, and follow up on the enquiries that went quiet. In a category decided by the speed of the reply, this is the highest leverage automation available.

  8. 08

    SEO

Service, event type and venue pages that earn the shortlist without paying for every enquiry.

  9. 09

    Web Design and Speed

Portfolio, service area, starting price and enquiry form on a phone in under a minute, because that is how the shortlist is built.

  10. 10

    AI Search

Assistants are increasingly asked what a wedding or a corporate event of a given size should cost and who provides it locally, and clear factual pages are what get a supplier named.

Why that order, in full

A nine month booking window judged in a thirty day report is a measurement problem, not a marketing one, and the general case is in why most conversion tracking is quietly wrong, handled by the analytics and tracking program.

How events themselves are marketed, on a date rather than a month, is on the events industry page. What we report and how you check it is on how we report and how you verify it, and the commercial terms are in the trial and money-back terms.

What we report

The metrics that actually matter

Live in your portal, not a monthly PDF. These are the numbers we commit to reporting for event services, whether they moved in the right direction or not.

  • Signed contracts by source, with contract value and event date attached
  • Time from enquiry received to first reply, measured in hours
  • Enquiry to booking rate, by event type rather than blended
  • Bookings by event month, so a full calendar and a busy month are not confused
  • Cost per booking against average contract value, not cost per enquiry
  • Share of bookings that came from supplier and venue referral, tracked rather than assumed

Where it goes wrong

Three ways this gets broken

01

Judging the program on a thirty day window

Bookings made this month are frequently for events nine months away, and this month's revenue was booked last spring. A monthly report that compares spend to revenue in the same month describes neither, and it is the reason event suppliers routinely cut a channel that was working.

02

Replying in days

The enquiry went to three suppliers. The one who answered the same day with a starting price is usually already in conversation by the time the second reply arrives. This is an operations fix, it costs nothing, and it beats every optimisation available in the ad account.

03

Refusing to publish any price

The buyer has three other quotes and no patience. Withholding a range does not protect margin, it removes the supplier from consideration and fills the enquiry list with people who will leave when they hear the number.

Compliance and practical notes

What we work around in event services

Alcohol, food and venue rules vary by state and by venue

Catering licences, alcohol service and insurance requirements differ by state and often by individual venue. Advertising a service a supplier is not licensed or insured to provide at a given venue creates a booking that has to be unwound.

Deposits and cancellation terms belong in the copy

Deposit, cancellation and rescheduling terms are the source of most disputes in this category, and stating them plainly attracts better enquiries rather than fewer.

Photographs of clients need permission

Event photography usually shows identifiable people at a private occasion. Publishing it needs the client's agreement, and the agreement should exist in writing rather than in a memory of a conversation.

General information, not legal advice. Rules change and vary by state. Your business stays responsible for the legality of its own offers, claims, and disclosures, and nothing goes live without your approval.

FAQ

Event services questions

Why does our marketing look like it is failing every month?

Because the report is comparing this month's spend to this month's revenue in a business where the two are nine months apart. Bookings have to be recorded with their event date and their contract value, and the program judged on bookings won in a period rather than events that happened in it. Almost every event supplier that concludes advertising does not work for them is reading the wrong report.

Should a starting price go on the site?

In nearly all cases yes. The buyer is comparing three suppliers and will drop the one who will not indicate a number. A range also removes the enquiries that were never going to book, which gives the team back the hours currently spent on calls that end at the price.

What matters more, more enquiries or better replies?

Better replies, almost always, and it is not close. In a category where the same enquiry goes to three suppliers, the reply time and the usefulness of the first response decide the booking. Adding traffic to a slow enquiry process spends money to lose more shortlists.

Does CurrentAds have event services clients?

No. CurrentAds has no paying clients yet, in this industry or any other. What is published here is an approach and a set of published industry figures, not a client history.
